The GMAT is a computer-adaptive test that evaluates a candidate's analytical, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills. It serves as a key entry requirement for MBA and finance-related programs in top business schools globally. The exam fee is around US $275 for test centres and US $300 for the online format in India. GMAT Focus Edition 2023, launching in June, offers official prep resources. Candidates well-prepared for the current GMAT exam need not worry, as it remains available until early 2024. Starting from August 29, 2023, candidates can register for both exam formats. The GMAT exam duration was reduced to 3 hours and 7 minutes, with 2 optional breaks. Section order customization is available, and the changes do not impact scoring.

What is GMAT?

GMAT stands for the Graduate Management Admission Test. It is a standardized computer-adaptive test used to assess the analytical writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills of candidates in standard written English. The GMAT is primarily taken by individuals aspiring to pursue graduate management programs, such as Master of Business Administration (MBA) and related courses, in business schools and universities around the world.

The GMAT is designed to evaluate a candidate's readiness for the academic demands of graduate management education and to provide business schools with a standardized measure to compare applicants from diverse educational backgrounds. It is considered one of the most widely accepted exams for MBA admissions globally.

Flexibility: Candidates can retake the GMAT after a specific waiting period if they wish to improve their scores. However, there are limits on the number of attempts allowed within a certain time frame.

GMAT Key Features Highlight

Computer-Adaptive Format: The GMAT is administered on a computer, and the difficulty level of the questions adapts based on the candidate's performance. Correct answers lead to more challenging questions, while incorrect answers lead to easier questions.

Four Sections: The GMAT consists of four main sections:

Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) measures the candidate's ability to analyze arguments and communicate ideas coherently in writing.
Integrated Reasoning (IR) assesses the ability to analyze and interpret data from various sources and make informed decisions.
Quantitative Reasoning evaluates mathematical and problem-solving skills.
Verbal Reasoning tests reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction skills.

Scoring: Scores range from 200 to 800, with separate scores for each section. AWA is scored from 0 to 6, and IR from 1 to 8.

Test Centers: Administered at designated test centres globally, providing flexibility in choosing the exam location and time.

Score Validity: GMAT scores remain valid for five years, allowing use in business school applications during that period.

The GMAT serves as a crucial part of the application process for many business schools, providing valuable insights into candidates' academic readiness and potential for success in graduate management programs. GMAT 2023 Eligibility

While the eligibility requirements may vary among different institutions, here are some general factors that are often considered in the admission process

Educational Qualification: Most business schools require candidates to have completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized university or institution. The specific field of study may not be restricted to any particular discipline.

Work Experience: Many MBA programs prefer candidates with some work experience, although the amount and type of work experience required can vary. Some programs may have specific requirements or recommendations regarding work experience, such as a minimum number of years or relevant industry experience.

English Language Proficiency: If English is not your native language, you may be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by providing test scores from exams such as the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

GPA and Academic Records: Your undergraduate academic performance, as reflected in your GPA (Grade Point Average) or equivalent, may be considered by business schools during the admission process. However, the weightage given to academic records can vary among institutions.

Letters of Recommendation: Many business schools require applicants to submit letters of recommendation from individuals who can provide insight into their character, academic abilities, and professional potential. These recommendations may be from professors, supervisors, or other professional contacts.

Application Essays and Interviews: Business schools often require applicants to submit essays or participate in interviews as part of the application process. These essays and interviews help assess your communication skills, motivations, goals, and fit with the program.

It's important to note that the specific eligibility criteria can vary significantly between different business schools and programs. Therefore, it is recommended to thoroughly research the admission requirements of the schools you are interested in to ensure you meet their specific eligibility criteria.

Ultimately, while the GMAT itself does not have specific eligibility requirements, meeting the admission criteria of the business schools you are applying to is essential for gaining admission to their programs.
