What is the syllabus of XAT?

The XAT syllabus consists of four sections: Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge. Each section has a specific weightage, and all the questions are multiple-choice type.

The Verbal and Logical Ability section is designed to test the candidate's English language skills, including grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. The Decision Making section assesses a candidate's ability to make sound decisions in complex situations. The Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section measures the candidate's mathematical ability and data interpretation skills.

The General Knowledge section covers a wide range of topics such as current affairs, business and economics, politics, history, and geography. It is important for candidates to stay updated with the latest news and events to perform well in this section.

XAT Section-wise Syllabus 2024

  1. Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (QA & DI): 28 Questions will be asked from this section from topics like mensuration, algebra, geometry, number system, etc. The difficulty level of this section is usually high, and for this reason, an accuracy of 70% is considered good.
  2. Verbal & Logical Ability (VA & LR): Questions in this section are mostly from topics like critical and analytical reasoning, vocabulary, reading comprehension, logical deductions, etc. 26 questions of moderate-high level of difficulty will be in XAT Verbal & Logical Ability section.
  3. Decision Making (DM): 22 questions will be asked from this section. This section is an interesting feature of the XAT exam and consists of questions from topics such as case study, data arrangement, decision-making in a given scenario, ethical dilemma, etc.
  4. GK: The section is usually of moderate difficulty and there is no negative marking for wrong answers. A total of 25 questions carrying 1 mark each will be asked in this section.

Essay: 3 topics will be given out of which the candidates will be required to choose 1 and write a short essay of not more than 250 words

XAT Syllabus 2024: Key Changes

The topics in the XAT syllabus key changes are chosen based on how frequently they appeared in the XAT exams from previous years. The five sections of the syllabus for the XAT exam in 2024 will include questions covering the main subjects listed in the syllabus.   • 25 GK questions in Part 3 will not have any negative marking.

Ques. Is a calculator permitted during the XAT exam?

Ans. Calculators are not permitted during the XAT exam. For QADI questions, candidates must perform calculations by hand. Furthermore, no electronic device of any kind is permitted in the exam centre.

Ques. How many sections make up the syllabus for the XAT 2024?

Ans. Verbal and Logical Ability, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Decision Making, and General Knowledge are the five sections that make up the XAT 2024 Syllabus. The first part of the paper will comprise three sections that need to be completed in 175 minutes, and the third part will include the GK and essay sections that need to be completed in 30 minutes. There will only be a mock keyboard test in Part 2.

Ques. Does CAT exam preparation suffice to pass XAT 2024?

Ans. The XAT and CAT syllabuses are nearly identical, candidates can review their XAT 2024 preparation materials. The only two XAT sections that require additional preparation are Decision Making and GK.

Ques. Is switching between the sections not allowed in the XAT online test?

Ans. No, there aren't any guidelines like that for alternating between QADI, VALR, and DM in XAT part 1. Candidates cannot, however, switch from the Part 1 paper to Part 2 or Part 3. Additionally, it would be ideal if you finished one section before moving on to the next.
