The district of Balaghat is part of the Nagpur Division of the Central Provinces. Following Indian Independence in 1947, the Central Provinces became the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. After 1956, Balaghat District came into the Jabalpur Division of Madhya Pradesh in the year 1956, when the districts south of Balaghat which included the Old Bhandara as well as Nagpur districts became part of Bombay State.
