The Haryana Agricultural University was established on February 2, 1970, as a result of bifurcation of the erstwhile Punjab Agricultural University, through a Presidential Ordinance, ratified later by the Haryana and Punjab Agricultural Universities Act, 1970(Act No 16 of 1970) passed by the Lok Sabha on 29th March, 1970. Kerala Agricultural University
On the recommendation of the Second National Education Commission (1964-66) headed by Dr. D.S. Kothari, the then Chairman of the University Grants Commission, one Agricultural University in each State was established. The State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) were established in India as an integral part of the National Agricultural Research System to give the much needed impetus to Agriculture Education and Research in the Country. As a result the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) was established on 24th February 1971 by virtue of the Act 33 of 1971 and started functioning on 1st February 1972. The Kerala Agricultural University is the 15th in the series of the SAUs. Agriculture was later introduced as an optional subject for Intermediate Course in 1953. In 1955, the erstwhile Government of Travancore-Cochin started the Agricultural College and Research Institute at Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram and the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Mannuthy, Thrissur for imparting higher education in agricultural and veterinary sciences, respectively.

This second Central Agricultural University in India established and named in the memory of great freedom fighter known as warrior queen of Jhansi Late Rani Lakshmi Bai who sacrificed her life at the altar of the freedom. UCST Dehra Dun is a leading institute engaged in Academic cum Professional Field(s) of study at undergraduate & postgraduate levels as referred in the preceding pages under the able guidance and supervision of an academician & educationist of repute & fame.It was founded by UTTARANCHAL PROGRESSIVE EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY, HQ II-A Sewak Ashram Road, Dehradun. The institute, working under SELF-FINANCING SCHEME, offers an academic area(s), which help students keep pace, and stay pace with educational programme(s), and has the relevance to the professional life of the students.The institute has the dynamic academic and research programme(s) which involves a faculty of about 45 lecturers and scientists. It has a vigorous visitors' programme under which eminent national professors and scientists visit and lecture at this campus. The reasonable balance between theory & practice with the available state-of-the-art support system is ensured at the campus. In addition, the institute provides an environment which is conducive to make the students focus on their development and traditional values. It is also very much alive to the holding of classes regularly & punctually, maintenance of discipline and dress code at this campus. The MoUs have also been signed with allied institutions and corporate world in India in order to give more exposure(s) to the students to the relevant & allied state-of-the-art support system(s).

Hills cover major part of Uttarakhand State. About 65% of the total geographical area is under forest. For myriad reasons, agriculture in hill region of the State has been at subsistence level. However, horticulture and forestry are the two major sectors that hold enormous potential for sustainable growth. With a view to develop these sectors through scientific interventions, the State Government has established Uttarakhand University of Horticulture & Forestry (UUHF) by an Act of State Legislative Assembly [The Uttarakhand Krishi Evam Prodyogik Vishwavidhyalaya (Amendment) Act, 2011 {Uttarakhand Act No.13 of 2011}] dated 28th April, 2011 with Head Quarter at Bharsar,Pauri Garhwal. The Notification No. 732/XIII-II/2011-12(02)/2011, dated 26th September, 2011 has also been issued in this regard by the State Government. With the establishment of UUHF, various campuses, Colleges, Research Centres and KVKs viz., Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali College of Horticulture, Bharsar; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Distt. Pauri Garhwal; College of Forestry & Hill Agriculture, Ranichauri; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Distt. Tehri Garhwal; Research Centers at Kanatal and Gaja (Tehri Garhwal) of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology have been merged with UUHF.

After independence, development of the rural sector was considered the primary concern of the Government of India. In 1949, with the appointment of the Radhakrishnan University Education Commission, imparting of agricultural education through the setting up of rural universities became the focal point. Later, in 1954 an Indo-American team led by Dr. K.R. Damle, the Vice-President of ICAR, was constituted that arrived at the idea of establishing a Rural University on the land-grant pattern of USA. As a consequence a contract between the Government of India, the Technical Cooperation Mission and some land-grant universities of USA, was signed to promote agricultural education in the country. The US universities included the universities of Tennessee, the Ohio State University, the Kansas State University, The University of Illinois, the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Missouri. The task of assisting Uttar Pradesh in establishing an agricultural university was assigned to the University of Illinois which signed a contract in 1959 to establish an agricultural University in the State. Dean, H.W. Hannah, of the University of Illinois prepared a blueprint for a Rural University to be set up at the Tarai State Farm in the district Nainital, UP. In the initial stage the University of Illinois also offered the services of its scientists and teachers. Thus, in 1960, the first agricultural university of India, UP Agricultural University, came into being by an Act of legislation, UP Act XI-V of 1958. The Act was later amended under UP Universities Re-enactment and Amendment Act 1972 and the University was rechristened as Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology keeping in view the contributions of Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, the then Chief Minister of UP. The University was dedicated to the Nation by the first Prime Minister of India Pt Jawaharlal Nehru on 17 November 1960.

Seacom Skills University is established under West Bengal Government’s policy (Vide Official Gazette Notification No. : 142-Edn (U) dated 31/01/2013), in line with the provisions under section 2(f) of the University Grant Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, as has been passed as Seacom Skills University Act, 2014 by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly (West Bengal Act VI of 2014) and has received the assent of the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal on 11th April 2014 (Vide Official Gazette Notification no. 396-Edn(U) / OM-155L / 2012).

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science & Technology
The idea of establishment of University for the development of various sectors of agriculture was under persuasion by the government of Jammu and Kashmir right from early 1970’s. But its dream came true with its establishment in the year 1982 and was named after great legendary leader, the Sher-e-Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah as Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology with its main campus at Shalimar, Srinagar with a vision to pursue teaching and conduct research and extension services in agriculture and allied sciences directed to food, nutritional and livelihood security. During 1998-99, the territorial jurisdiction of the University was redefined by amending the SKUAST Act under which a separate Agricultural University was established for Jammu Division and accordingly the parent University was renamed as Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) with its jurisdiction of following two agro-ecological regions:
