The Manipur University of Culture was established in 2015 after the Government of Manipur introduced a Bill called “The Manipur University of Culture Bill, 2015” in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The Government of Manipur took a bold decision to establish this culture university with a hope of promoting Art & Culture and rich Cultural Heritage of India. Specially, the Manipur University of Culture was set up as a Model University in the field of Art and Culture in the history of Indian academy. The Bill received the assent of the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur on the 10th April 2015. The Act was published in the Manipur Gazette on May 5, 2015. Subsequently, the Government has appointed the 25th August 2015 as the date of Commencement of the Act.The first Vice-Chancellor Prof N. Khogen Singh and the first Registrar Shri L. Joychandra Singh assumed their office on the 4th December 2015. The University was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur on the 12th August 2016 in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister and the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Manipur.

The Central Agricultural University was established by an act of Parliament, the Central Agricultural University Act 1992 (No.40 of 1992). The Act came into effect on 26 January 1993 with the issue of necessary notification by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Government of India. The university became functional with the joining of the first vice-chancellor on 13 September 1993.

Manipur Technical University
The Manipur Technical University (MTU) is the first technical university of the state established on 23rd April 2016 under “The Manipur Technical University Act, 2016” (Manipur Act No.8 of 2016). It is included in the UGC list of Universities under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 and empowered to award degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956 through its departments. All technical institutions operating in the state will affiliate to MTU in due course of time. The university will be in the sixth academic session during the academic year 2021-2022. The process for accreditation under the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognition under All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will be taken up after two batches have passed out from MTU.At present, the university is located in the Government Polytechnic Campus at Takyelpat, Imphal West District, Manipur. The government of Manipur has allotted land measuring an area of 116.22 acres for the establishment of permanent campus at Khaidem Makha leikai and Heigrujam Mamang leikai under Patsoi Sub-Division of Imphal West District, Manipur.
National Institute of Technology Manipur
NIT Manipur started its first session on 2nd August 2010 with only three branches of Engineering namely - Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering at Government Polytechnic, Takyelpat Campus. It is presently functioning in its Permanent Campus at Langol, Imphal, with two more Engineering Branches namely - Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The institute has acquired 341.5 acres of land in lush green areas of Langol, Imphal. The Institute is administered by the Director of the Institute under the direct supervision of Board of Governors(BOG) headed by The Chairman of the Board of Governors as the institute is registered under Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989. The policy for academic activity will be made through Senate with prior approval of the Board of Governors and implemented through Dean(Academic). The Planning and Development of the institute will be implemented through Dean (P & D) whereas the Students Affairs will be looked after by Dean(Student Welfare). Registrar is the custodian of all records of the institution and all administrative orders will be issued through Registrar, where he will also be responsible to the Director for proper implementation of the policy matter of the institute.
