Bihar National College, popularly known as B. N. College was established in 1889 by two avid educationists and nationalists Babu Bisheswar Singh and Shaligram Singh of Kulharia Raj, Bhojpur, Bihar. During the colonial yoke after Indian National Congress was formed in 1885, these two brothers felt the crying need to stoke up nationalist feelings amongst the students christened this college Bihar National College, but the then British Government mounted much pressure upon them to delete the word National and promised to give the title of Raja and a very big Jagir. But as these brothers were different from the other zamindars in the sense that while others considered the dissemination of education a grave threat to their existence, these Singh brothers were committed to the ennobling and lofty causes of education, they did not succumb to the pressures. At that time Bisheswar Singh was a student of final year (law) at Calcutta College of Law. The Governor General of Calcutta expelled him from the college. Not only this when Bisheswar Singh started practising law at Patna civil court after obtaining the PL certificate, but he was also not allowed to sit in the Bar Association. He had to encounter umpteen trails and tribulations

Bihar National College is popularly called B. N. College was founded on the 18th of October, 1889. It was founded by ardent nationalists and educationists Babu Bisheswar Singh and Shaligram Singh from Kulharia Raj, Bhojpur, Bihar. In the yoke of colonial rule after Indian National Congress was formed in 1885, the pair of brothers realized the necessity to ignite nationalist sentiment among their students. They and named the college Bihar National College, but the then British Government put pressure on them to remove the term National and promised to grant the name Raja as well as the name of a huge Jagir.

However, these brothers were distinct from other zamindars, in the sense that, while other zamindars thought that education's spread was as a serious threat to their lives, the Singh brothers were devoted to the noble and noble goals of education and didn't succumb to the demands. At the time Bisheswar Singh was a student in the senior semester (law) of the Calcutta College of Law.

In the Governor General's office, Calcutta was exiled from the school. Not only that, when Bisheswar Singh began practicing law in the Patna civil court following the issuance of the Certificate of PL, but the governor also denied him permission to join the Bar Association. He had to go through a lot of obstacles and trials.
