The Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, also known as CIAE Bhopal or CIAE ICAR Bhopal, is India's premier institute for the agricultural engineering profession. The Institute offers a Ph.D.  in Agricultural Engineering with a focus on Agricultural Procedures and Structures and Agricultural Energy and Equipment. Admission to the program is based on enrollment. The entrance exam is organized by the institution itself and the application process is online. The need to establish a central agricultural engineering institute in Bhopal was expressed during the study group meeting of the Main Working Group on Agricultural Research, Education and Manpower, chaired by Dr. JS Patel, past President of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers in September 1972, suggested to the group of ICAR that a task force committee be set up to formulate the terms of the establishment of the institute.  First, it was proposed to establish the Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering in Bhopal as an institute with problem-solving facilities in the fields of agricultural machinery and power supply, rural water resource development, agricultural product processing, agricultural structure, and rural planning.
