The Institute, originally known as Malaviya Regional Engineering College Jaipur, was co-established in 1963 by the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan. Later, on June 26, 2002, it was elevated to the status of National Institute of Technology. Then, on August 15, 2007, it attained recognition as an Institute of National Importance through a parliamentary Act. Fully funded by the Ministry of Education (Shiksha Mantralaya), Government of India, the Institute stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of both state and central governments in fostering technical education and research.
