The YCMOU Act is: “An Act to establish and incorporate an Open University in the state of Maharashtra for the introduction and promotion of Open University and distance education systems in the educational pattern of the state of Maharashtra, as a measure in the decentralization and reorganization of university education in the state and to provide for the matters connected herewith or supplemental or incidental thereto”.(YCMOU Act, 1989)
The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Distance Education Law is: “The Establishment and Establishment Law of the Open University of Maharashtra for the Purpose of Establishing and Promoting the Open University and Distance Learning Systems in the Education System of Maharashtra as a Means of Decentralizing and Reorganizing University Education in the State. ” and related to, complementary or accompanying subjects (Law YCMOU, 1989).Library: The YCMOU Library is an archive of 44,825 printed books, 106 journal subscriptions, 2,947 CD-ROMs, 296 audiocassettes and 277 videocassettes, and 4,500 online journals from international databases such as EBSCO, DELNET, etc.
Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Distance Education is Affiliated with the University of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University and Approved by Distance Education Bureau (DEB), and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Council of Architecture (COA).

The application form can be completed online at the YCMOU official website. After completing the online registration, students are required to upload an online payment receipt (INR 100). Final admission is only granted upon presentation of a receipt at the responsible study center.
The goal of the YCMOU is to become a ‘Mass Varsity’. The University strives to ‘Reach the Unreached’ segments of the society thereby providing need-based, academic programs of various levels ranging from certificate to Post-Graduate programs.
The YCMOU has its headquarters at Nashik, Regional Centres in 8 regions, and 1711 learners' support centers spread all over the State of Maharashtra.
