Central University for Tibetan Studies (CUTS), is a Deemed University founded in Sarnath, Varanasi, India, in 1967, as an autonomous organisation under Union Ministry of Culture.[2] The CIHTS was founded by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru in consultation with Tenzin Gyatso, the Dalai of Lama, with the aim of educating Tibetan youths in exile and Himalayan border students as well as with the aim of retranslating into Sanskrit and translating into Hindi and other modern Indian languages lost Indo-Buddhist Sanskrit texts that now exist only in Tibetan.
? To preserve Tibetan Culture and Tradition rooted to ancient Indian knowledge system ? To restore ancient Indian Sciences and literature preserved in Tibetan Language but lost in the original.
To ensure traditional education to Tibetan Refugee students and students of Indian Himalayan region and others who lost the opportunity of studying in Tibet for advanced studies in Buddhism and Tibetan Studies, which is the intact legacy of ancient Nalanda, Vikramshila, Takshashila etc., the greatest learning centres in ancient India. To preserve this tradition through educating the youth in the traditional studies with all round development and with good footing on the modern studies.
