The National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal is India's premier institute for dairy research. The institute was accorded the status of Deemed University in the year 1989.
1 To carry out extension research on the basis of clientele needs. 2 To enable the end-users to adopt the innovations in dairy farming. 3 To carry out technology assessment and refinement of dairy innovations evolved by NDRI. 4 To undertake HRD programmes in dairy extension. 5 To promote convergence and collaboration for sustainable dairy farming.
Indian Council of Agricultural Research mooted the idea of establishing Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s to conduct “ON FARM TESTING” for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems, to organise “FRONT LINE DEMONSTRATIONS” to establish its production potentials on the farmers’ fields and to generate production data and feedback information.
