What is Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons.) Polymer Science?

B.Sc. (Honours) in Polymer Science is a Polymer Engineering undergraduate study. Polymer Science, often known as Macromolecular Science, is a branch of materials science that studies polymers, mainly synthetic polymers such as plastics. Polymer science researchers come from a variety of disciplines, including chemistry, physics, and engineering. Chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, and biochemistry are all covered in the course. Polymer science is the study of everyday materials and the creation of novel materials to fulfil social and technical needs.
The course structure introduces students to polymers, often formed as fibres, yarns, flakes, and granules. The training is career-oriented and will lead to several job opportunities upon completion. Polymer chemistry, morphology, synthesis, rheology, processing, and numerous types of chemical and physical testing of polymers are all covered in detail for students. Aside from academic knowledge, students in their second and third years are assigned to various enterprises and research laboratories for a two-month training programme.
The Polymer Science Department has cutting-edge facilities equipped with instruments such as the universal testing machine, extruder, two-roll mill, impact tester, MFI tester, viscometers, and hardness tester, among others to train students.
For taking up Polymer Science as a subject, students should have a strong enough foundation to manage the fundamental mathematical issues of polymer science. Within science, applicants should have an awareness and development of many modes of communication such as writing, reading, speaking, listening, and visual and graphical communication. They should also have professional skills and be able to apply them appropriately.

Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons.) Polymer Science

Aspiring students must have completed 10+2 with science or equivalent from a recognised school board with a minimum aggregate of 50%.
Some colleges require a minimum of 60%.

Benefits of Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons.) Polymer Science

  • It is helpful for advanced courses, including M.Sc. Polymer Science, Material Science, Environmental Science, M.Tech. Nanotechnology, MBA and other postgraduate diplomas.
  • Custom coating, packaging and converting solutions for the automotive, pharmaceutical, medical, electronics, and industrial applications are covered in this course.
  • Candidates must have the practical skills required to characterise polymers' physical properties and wholly and accurately present the results of their investigations in written form based on their polymer knowledge.
Career after Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons.) Polymer Science

Polymer science courses have seen a significant increase in India. Many new diploma and degree programmes dealing with polymers, their sub-branches such as rubbers, plastics, tyres, bio-polymers, textiles, packaging, and so on, and allied subjects such as material science, have had allied subjects such as material science been launched. The completion of these courses is a priority for industries. Polymer Science is an interdisciplinary subject with connections to practically every other field and industry. As a result, undergraduates from other subjects can pursue it as a career as well. It has enormous potential in both the job market and R&D. A typical bachelor's degree or diploma holder can easily earn 12000–15000 rupees.
Post-graduation and postgraduate diplomas boost one's chances of advancement.

The finest part is that it contains the most small-scale industries, indicating how simple it is to start one's own business. Universities are also looking for well-qualified professors with polymeric backgrounds.
