What is Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Applied Optics?

The MTech in Applied Optics places a strong emphasis on both theoretical and practical parts of the course. It is a course where students learn how to construct optical instruments such as telescopes, lenses, and other equipment using light properties. Imaging and non-imaging system design, spectroscopic instrumentation, and optical information processing are some of the topics covered in applied optics.

Because this is a research-oriented course, it focuses on the ideas and concepts of physics and electronics. The programme allows students to gain a solid understanding of optoelectronics as well as cutting-edge laser equipment and technology.
Theoretical Subjects, Optical Engineering Fundamentals, Optomechanical Design Analysis, Optical Fabrication (optical fibre communication) and Testing, Guided Wave Optics, Adaptive Optics, Optical System Analysis and Design, and others are among the topics covered in the course. They also learn about radiation, engineering and applications, laser theory, laser, photonic materials, electromagnetic theory, and other subjects.
Electro-Optics and Laser Theory research has created a whole new genre in the field of Applied Optics.

Astronomy, communications, biomedical research, medicine, scientific instruments, and control systems are just a few available jobs in this industry.

Eligibility Criteria for Master of Technology in Applied Optics

Candidates for MTech in Applied Optics are admitted based on their performance in the Entrance Examination, followed by a round of personal interviews. It is generally expected that the Candidates achieve a score higher than the previous year's cut-off. They are chosen from a pool of candidates based on their performance in the Entrance Examination. Candidates who have been chosen to participate in the counseling procedure are then contacted. Some essential criteria to be fulfilled are:
B.Tech / M.Sc. or equivalent with a CGPA 6.75 on a 10 point scale or 60% marks in aggregate for General Category with
  • GATE I (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score of 300 or qualifying score
  • GATE score of 200 or qualifying score, whichever is higher for SC / ST / PD category. *B. Tech candidates from IITs having a CGPA of 8.00 without GATE are also eligible for admission.
  • AMIE / Grad. IETE is eligible.
B.Tech. / M.Sc. or equivalent with (a) CGPA of 8.5 or 75% marks in aggregate for General / OBC Category, and CGPA of 7.5 or 70% marks in aggregate for SC / ST / PD category. GATE Score > 300 or qualifying score whichever is higher for General / OBC and 200 or qualifying score whichever is higher for SC / ST / PD
