Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering

Electronics and instrumentation engineering is the specialized section of electrical and electronics engineering. It primarily focuses on the operations and principles of measuring instruments used in designing and configuring automated systems. The technology of instrumentation does help in creating, constructing, and maintaining the measuring, and controlling the systems and devices that are found in research institutions and manufacturing plants. Therefore, B.Tech and M.Tech degrees in applied electronics, electronics, and instrumentation engineering can find jobs in these areas. Public sector companies like Bharat electronics Ltd., instrumentation Ltd., and Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd. Does provide some opportunities for jobs. Instrumentation engineering is the base of robotics and mechatronics engineering. Here the primary objective is to make sure that processes and systems operate efficiently and safely. This is a multi-disciplinary stream that does cover subjects from many branches like computers, mechanical, chemical, electronics, and electrical. The main focus of this branch of B.Tech is on the principles of operation of measuring the instruments that are used in automated systems.

To be able to pursue electronics and instrumentation engineering, the candidates must have some required set of skills:

The candidates that are applying for the electronics and instrumentation engineering should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from the renowned state or central board with a minimum of 65 percent marks (relaxed for reserved categories). Candidates must have English, mathematics, chemistry, and physics as the main subjects in class 12 or any equivalent exams. 

The post-graduate course in electronic and instrumentation engineering is done after the bachelor's degree in engineering. The applicants must have bachelor's degrees like B.Tech or B.E. degrees in engineering streams like electronics and communication, electrical, electronics, electrical, mechanical, and mechatronics. The candidates must have the minimum required scores for admission.

Electronics and instrumentation engineering is the semi-industrial branch. After the degree, the students do get chances in information technology companies. The IT firms do check their problem-solving and technical skills. The students of EIE do get more chances in the industries for a job. EIE students have a good scope in the industrial sector in today's world. Both EIE and ECE have many things in common.

The scope of the particular field of applied electronics and instrumentation engineering is a vast branch, and it does bridge among all the branches of engineering. It is a specialized branch of engineering which deals with automation, control, and measurement of processes. There is some scope for research in VLSI, instrumentation, and control, sensor networks, semiconductor devices, and signal processing, and Biomedical instrumentation.

All the manufacturing industries like oil, steel, petrochemical, defence, and power production of instruments are managed by instrumentation engineers. Automation is the central part of instrumentation engineers. So, the demand for instrumentation will be there always. With the development in aeronautical, avionics, and space science, the sector also has increased the scope for electronics and instrumentation engineers. The instrumentation engineers can also fit into the hardware and software sectors. Students can have jobs in public sectors like IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, Reliance, BEL, NTPC, SAIL, NALCO, HAL, etc. students can also have jobs in private sectors like Hindustan Motors, Tata Motors, Maruti, Wipro, Accenture, Cognizant, HCL, and many more.

The course duration for this degree is 4 years in the UG programme. The total number of the semester is 8 years. The course fees of EIE are around 5 Lakh to 9 Lakh.
