Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (Agriculture University), Rahuri, stands as Maharashtra's leading Agricultural University, providing essential services to farmers through Education, Research, and Extension Education. Established under the Maharashtra Agricultural University (Krishi Vidyapeeth) Act 1967, it commenced operations in March 1968 with its headquarters in Mumbai. Subsequently, the university's base shifted to the College of Agriculture, Pune, in 1969. In 1972, Maharashtra saw the establishment of four agricultural universities, including Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, catering to the agricultural needs of western Maharashtra across ten districts, namely Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Dhule, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Solapur, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur. The university derives its name from the eminent social reformer 'Mahatma Jyotiba Phule'.
