The inception of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) dates back to November 1945, with the aim of serving as a national-level advisory body focused on evaluating the existing technical education infrastructure and fostering the overall development of the nation in a harmonized manner. Enshrined within the AICTE Act, the primary objective was to establish a centralized entity responsible for orchestrating the systematic and coherent advancement of the technical education landscape across the country. This encompassed initiatives geared towards enhancing the quality of technical education in alignment with predetermined growth objectives, while also ensuring the effective regulation and maintenance of established norms and standards within the technical education framework.
As per law, Universities do not require AICTE approval. Only institutions which are affiliated to Universities require approval. As University is a Bonafide University established by a State Act, it does not require AICTE approval. This standing of law is notified in the case of Bharathidasan University Vs AICTE.
