Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU), located in Pune and sponsored by the esteemed Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Pune, attained the prestigious status of "Deemed-to-be-University" under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 in 2003. Initially founded with a single constituent unit, namely the Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre in Pune, DPU has witnessed remarkable growth over the past 16 years, expanding to encompass eight additional constituent units. The Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), acting upon the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC), bestowed the status of Deemed-to-be-University upon Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. This declaration, issued on the 11th of January 2003, encompassed Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre located in Pimpri, Pune, within the university's purview. This evolution from its humble beginnings to its current stature as a renowned Deemed-to-be-University underscores DPU's commitment to academic excellence, research, and holistic education.
