Forest Research Institute (FRI Dehradun) Admission 2024-25

Admission Process

Forest Research Institute (FRI Dehradun) releases advertisements in at least three national newspapers around January/February, inviting applications for its programs. The number of seats advertised remains generally unchanged, but the institute reserves the right to withdraw programs due to operational difficulties in a specific academic year or session.

Reservation Policy

For scheduled castes and tribes, 15% and 7.5% of the total available seats are reserved, respectively, subject to their suitability. These reservations are interchangeable. If there aren't enough scheduled tribe candidates, the seats can be filled by suitable scheduled caste candidates within the respective program. The reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) is provided as per the government of India's policy.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission to M.Sc. programs, post-master's Diploma, and Post-graduate Diploma courses are determined by the Academic Council. The qualifications for M.Sc. programs are as follows:

Application Procedure

1. Prospective candidates can obtain the application form from the Registrar of Forest Research Institute University, Dehra Dun, by paying Rs.1200/- through a Bank Draft in favor of the Registrar of Forest Research Institute University, payable at Dehra Dun. The cost of the form is subject to review and change.
2. Candidates must fill in the application form carefully, ensuring that all required certificates are attached and numbered. Attested copies of various certificates/documents, including proof of date of birth, educational certificates, caste certificate (if applicable), and character certificate, must be enclosed with the application form.

Eligibility for the Written Test

Candidates called for the written test must meet the minimum qualifications prescribed for various courses. The written test covers basic sciences, arithmetic and quantitative abilities, general knowledge, and English language comprehension. There is negative marking for wrong answers.

Procedure for Written Test and Merit List Preparation

A program-wise merit list is prepared based on the written test performance, and separate merit lists are created for SC/ST/OBC candidates. The Registrar/Director decides the manner of conducting the written test and other relevant details.

Results and Admission

Candidates are selected based on merit and minimum qualifying marks. The final list of selected candidates is approved by the Admission Committee. The results are displayed on the Notice Board of Forest Research Institute University, and selected candidates are informed individually by post.

Admission Confirmation

Selected candidates must pay the prescribed fees and join the course by the notified date. Failure to join by the specified date results in automatic cancellation of admission and the seat is offered to candidates on the waiting list. The validity of the select list and waiting list ceases within one month from the last date given for the first list.

Document Verification

Candidates called for admission must produce original certificates, mark sheets, etc., before payment of fees. Admission is contingent on producing the original degree/provisional degree within one month of admission.
