Admission to the college is solely based on the merit of 10th-grade marks. In addition to other government reservations, there is a 70% rural quota and a 50% Sikh minority quota based on the Sikh Religious Test (SRE) conducted by SGPC.
I. Admission based on marks obtained in the 10th grade for the first year and, for the second year, marks obtained in +2.
In the institution, 70% of overall seats will be filled by students hailing from rural areas in Punjab. A rural area is defined as an area located outside the limits of Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committee, Notified Area Committee, Cantonment Board, Township & University campus. A student from a rural area is one whose parents permanently reside in the rural area, has studied for a minimum of 3 years from a recognized/affiliated school located in a rural area, and has passed 5th/8th /10th or 10+2 from a school/college located in a rural area. Sons/Daughters of defense personnel/Ex-defense personnel permanently residing in a rural area are exempted from certain clauses.
Note: Candidates seeking admission under the Rural Category should fill Form No.11 given in the Board prospectus.
In the institution, 50% of seats are exclusively reserved for members of the Sikh minority community. The student should clear the Sikh Minority Test conducted by SGPC, Sri Amritsar. More information on the Sikh Minority Test can be obtained through.
(3) Other Reservations: As per the reservation policy given by the Government of Punjab.
For admission directly in the 2nd year of diploma courses, candidates must have passed one of the following examinations:
- ITI with two years (who have passed the 10th Level School leaving examination before admission to ITI courses) with a minimum of 60% marks from any institution in Punjab/Other states.
- 10 + 2 vocational examination in various branches with a minimum of 60% marks from any institution in Punjab/Other states.
- 10 + 2 Science with a minimum of 60% marks from any institution in Punjab/Other states.
- Two-year certificate course with a minimum of 60% marks from SLIET Longowal and have Punjab Domicile. In the event of vacancies lying unfilled, candidates who have passed the ITI at least with one year (who have passed the 10th level School leaving examination before admission to ITI Courses) or 10 + 2 Board shall also be eligible to be considered for admission. The admission process for LEET is through online counseling conducted by Punjab State Board of Technical Education, Chandigarh.

- The eligibility for this course is a three-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Automobile Engineering/Production Engineering/Machine Tool & Die awarded by Punjab State Board of Technical Education Chandigarh or Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal, or equivalent.
