The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 as a national-level apex advisory body with the aim of conducting a comprehensive survey of the available facilities for technical education and promoting development in a coordinated and integrated manner across the country. The AICTE Act was formulated to establish the council, intending to facilitate proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout India. Its objectives include promoting qualitative improvements in technical education alongside planned quantitative growth, as well as regulating and maintaining norms and standards within the technical education system and related matters.

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University was established by the Government of Maharashtra under the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University Act No. XXII of 1989 as a Unitary University. Subsequently, the government restructured the university as an Affiliating Technological University in 2016 through Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University Act No. XXIX of 2014. This restructuring expanded the university's jurisdiction to cover the entire state of Maharashtra. Presently, the university affiliated with 272 institutes, catering to a total student population of 1,36,534. Spanning 468 acres, the university campus serves as a hub for learning activities statewide. It attracts bright students from all corners of Maharashtra, molding them into skilled engineers and adept technocrats ready for employment. The university boasts well-equipped laboratories with advanced testing and analysis facilities, offering collaboration opportunities for industries. Additionally, it provides amenities such as conference halls, auditoriums, playgrounds, workshops, and computing facilities to facilitate holistic learning experiences.
