The Institute of Business Management (IBM), affiliated to Jadavpur University and approved by AICTE is a product of the century-old National Council of Education, Bengal, born out of the freedom movement, and established on 11th March 1905.

Besides founding Jadavpur University in 1955 under an act passed in the State Assembly, the National Council of Education, Bengal established an educational complex comprising of Jadavpur Vidyapith (1957), covering Nursery through Higher Secondary, Jadavpur Vidyapeeth College of Education (1969), offering B.Ed. degree under Jadavpur University and the Institute of Business Management offers an MBA from Jadavpur University (1984). IBM has been working with the industry and academia for developing new domains of managerial thought and education and contributing to building leaders in today’s global business environment.

Infrastructure and Facilities

The Institute of Business Management has a sprawling campus that is well-maintained and provides a serene environment for learning. The buildings are modern and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, Institute of Business Management makes it easier for students to learn and faculty to teach. The classrooms of the Institute of Business Management, lecture halls, and labs are spacious, comfortable, and designed to provide an excellent learning experience. The library is also outstanding, with a vast collection of books, online resources, and knowledgeable librarians.

Some Other Facilities of the Institute of Business Management are:

Spacious, well-ventilated, AC classrooms with comfortable seating arrangements and projector facilities in all the rooms. Presently we are in the process of converting our classrooms into “smart” classrooms.

The Computer facilities include 60 nodes with two servers connected to a LAN with high-speed Internet. Faculty and students have access to 80 computers including laptops for teaching, learning, and project-related activities. In addition, the library is also equipped with modern high-speed computers along with printers.

The Institute library, equipped with modern high-speed computers, the latest software along with printers, has an excellent collection of books and journals – over 11000 books of 2640 titles. The library subscribes to around 45 journals, both national and international, in addition to e-journals and business databases. The library is fully air-conditioned with an adjoining spacious well illuminated reading room with a comfortable seating arrangement for 60 students. There is a separate reference section and a room for consultation. The library is designed to be an open-access system. A photocopying facility for students is also located in the library.

The Institute’s AC auditorium, Indumati Sabhagriha, has a capacity for 200 guests.

Placement Cell

The Institute has structured an intensive employment-training program enriched by interaction with industry executives, seminars, and communicative skill development with a state-of-the-art communication laboratory. Soft skills and grooming sessions have been incorporated as part of the academic curriculum for all students to enable them to face the rigorous interview and selection processes of various recruiters with confidence.
