The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament in 1956 under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Its primary mandate is to promote and coordinate university education across the country while ensuring the maintenance of high standards in teaching, examinations, and research activities.

Operating under the authority of its founding legislation, the UGC plays a pivotal role in providing grants to eligible universities and colleges to support their academic and research endeavors. Moreover, the UGC serves as an advisory body to both the Central and State Governments, offering recommendations and guidance on various aspects related to the enhancement of higher education. This includes advising on policy measures, reforms, and initiatives aimed at fostering the advancement of the education sector.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University approved by AICTE

As per the provisions outlined in the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE Act of 1987, during the initial five years following its establishment in 1988, the Council was chaired by the Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India. Subsequently, on July 2, 1993, the first full-time Chairman was appointed, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the Council. In March 1994, the Council underwent reconstitution for a term of three years, reflecting a commitment to effective governance and leadership.

Furthermore, the Executive Committee underwent reconstitution on July 7, 1994, to ensure efficient decision-making and administration. Concurrently, the All India Board of Studies and Advisory Boards were established during 1994-95, further enhancing the Council's operational framework and expertise. In a strategic move to streamline operations and optimize resources, the Regional Offices of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, situated in Kolkata, Chennai, Kanpur, and Mumbai, were transferred to AICTE.

Ranking Of Indian Institute Of Management

  • Universities and the Degrees awarded by them are recognized by the UGC. Letter of UGC on Recognition of University Click Here University is a full fledged university and not a deemed university.

  • As per law, Universities do not require AICTE approval. Only institutions which are affiliated to Universities require approval.
