The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree from a university established by an Act of the central or state legislature in India, or from another institution of higher learning declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or hold an equivalent degree recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, with at least 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA. After finishing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or an equivalent program, the candidate must have completed a minimum of three years of education to get a bachelor's degree or an equal certification.

Candidates who will be taking the final examination for a bachelor's degree or an equivalent level may also apply. Such candidates are required to present a certificate from the principal, department head, registrar, or director of the university or institution attesting that they received 50% or an equal grade based on the most recent grades or marks. If chosen, these candidates will only be permitted to join the program provisionally if they submit a certificate, issued no later than June 30, 2016, from the principal or registrar of their college or institute, stating that they have met all the requirements (the results may, however, still be awaited) for obtaining a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
