The RMK Engineering College, Thiruvallur (RMKEC Thiruvallur) has comprehensive hostel facilities for the students. Exclusively, three blocks are provided for men, accommodating more than 1000 students. Boys’ Hostel-I with an area of 2452 sq. m has 96 rooms spread over three floors and accommodates about 300 students. Boys’ Hostel-II with an area of 2190 sq. m has 83 rooms and accommodates 215 students. Boys’ Hostel-III with an area of 3135 sq. m has 126 rooms spread over three floors and accommodates about 250 students.
A separate library, reading room, shuttle courts, and a stationary cum fruit shop are provided within the hostel premises. All the hostel blocks also have STD facilities.
The RMK Engineering College, Thiruvallur (RMKEC Thiruvallur) has a separate hostel for women. Exclusively, three blocks for women, in all accommodating more than 400 students are provided. Girls’ Hostel-I with an area of 1330 sq. m. has 45 rooms and accommodates 145 students. Girls Hostel-II with an area of 314 sq. m has 10 rooms and accommodates 40 students. Girls’ Hostel-III I with an area of 2157 sq. m. has 63 rooms with a study hall and can accommodate 280 students A separate dining hall covering 200 sq. m, to accommodate 100 students at a time, is also available in this block.
Facilities like Shuttle courts, a Table tennis court, and a stationary cum fruit shop are provided within the hostel premises. All the hostel blocks also have STD facilities.
A Sound body is essential for a sound mind.The hostel is annexed with a kitchen, to provide food at protected and hygienic environment along with dining halls, which can accommodate more than 1000 students at a time.Healthy and nutritive food is served. The hostel kitchen has facilities for steam cooking with gas stoves. There are three dining halls covering an area of about 750 sq.m for accommodating large number of students at a time.
Physical fitness is given utmost importance. Both Boys’ and Girls’ hostels are provided with an air-conditioned gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment. Moreover, the Boys’ Hostel is annexed with a full-fledged air-conditioned hair grooming center and the Girls’ Hostel is annexed with a full-fledged air-conditioned Beauty Parlour attached to it. A clinic, with a few beds along with a Doctor call facility for 24 Hours to take care of the health requirements of the hostel students, is also made available.
R.M.K. Engineering College Computer Centre, which is a central facility and provides computing support to the user community consisting of students, faculty, research staff, and office staff for academic and office automation purposes. The computer center with a built-up area of 2 * 863 sq. meters, is located in the Swaminatha Naidu Block with more than 1130 computers to afford computing facilities and Internet services. The working environment is open and it facilitates the smooth functioning of the center and the effective utilization of the resources. The Centre provides system administration and technical support which include Software installation, Network monitoring (both wired & wireless), Internet connection, and digital library, etc. The Centre has a 1.25 Gbps(Airtel 1 Gbps and Tata 250 Mbps) dedicated Internet link. The Centre supports an institute-wide fiber optic network and wireless that connects all the academic departments, hostels, library, and other central facilities to the Computer Centre. It has several state-of-the-art Servers and licensed Application software. The CC has a technical staff team that has developed and implemented CAMPUS PERFORMANCE TRACKER (CPT) software in the RMK Engineering College Intranet that is being used by the college faculty members and staff and various applications needed by the college.
R.M.K. Engineering College Central Library is located in Swaminadha Naidu Block and covers an area of 930 Sq.m. The ultra-modern Library has a well-established fully air-conditioned Library and Information Centre. The Library and Information Centre is a separate reading and reference section to service the Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, staff members, and research scholars. The annual budget of our Central Library is around 60 Lakhs. The Central Library is covered with a huge collection of 1,02,336 Volumes and 27,794 Titles, covering all major fields of science and engineering technology with international standard resources. Books are classified and arranged according to the Dewey decimal classification (DDC – 22nd Ed.) scheme. The Library has subscribed for the e-journals package for AICTE Suggested IEEE, IETE, IEI, DELNET, and NDL and also subscribed to 72 National Journals 71 National technical magazines, and General magazines. The Library provides for the staff and students such as OPAC, Multimedia, Internet, and Proceedings, Reports, and CD ROMs Collections. Separate reprographic facilities are available for photocopying of reference materials, journal articles, and other printed materials.
The R.M.K. Engineering College Central Library has a fleet of 52 buses, 11 vans and 12 cars to transport students and staff from Chennai & Tiruvallur districts to college and back. These buses operate along 10 routes starting from different points approximately between 6.30 and 6.45 a.m.
