The admission process at SAU follows a standardized approach across all courses, allowing interested candidates to submit applications through the official SAU website. To be eligible for enrollment in any Master's program, candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree. For admission to Ph.D. programs, a prerequisite is the possession of a Master's degree. The selection process for all courses involves participation in an entrance test, and Ph.D. candidates are additionally subjected to a Personal Interview.

Seat allocations are contingent on nationality, reserving 50% for Indian students. The 2024 admissions for SAU's MA, M.Sc., and LL.M. programs cover six specializations. Prospective students must successfully clear the University's Entrance Test, with the minimum educational requirement being a Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject, meeting specified percentage criteria.

The University administers an offline entrance exam at selected centers in SAARC countries, with an emphasis on simultaneous testing at centers in each country. A sample question paper is conveniently available on the SAU official website.

Applicants are required to possess a valid three-year Bachelor's degree, meeting the specified percentage (50% for M.A. & LL.M. and 55% for M.Sc.). Moreover, candidates holding a four-year Bachelor's degree or a two-year Bachelor's degree, coupled with the successful completion of the first year of a Master's program, are deemed eligible. While 50% of seats are reserved for Indian students, the remaining seats are allocated among other SAARC countries.
