The college was established in 1960 by the people of the Thiyya community under the leadership of overdue R Shankar through accumulating sources in each coin and sorting from the human beings of Kannur. R Shankar, the founder manager, christened the institution after the great saint and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru as Sree Narayana College Kannur.

Facilities and Infrastructure

LIBRARY:

The computerized Central Library caters to the needs of the entire student community, research scholars, and staff (both Teaching and Non-Teaching) of the college. The General library is housed in a separate block with an approximate build-up area of 3840 sq. ft spread over two floors of the Jubilee Building of the college. The ground floor houses the general library section and the reference and reading room are accommodated in the first floor. The library functions from 9 am to 5 pm on all working days, including Saturdays and also during vacations.

ACADEMIC FACILITY:

The College has 23.24 acres of land in its possession. The College gives good enough infrastructure centers for curricular and extracurricular activities. Teaching-Learning facilities include 51 classrooms, 6 BSc laboratories, 3 MSc laboratories, 4 Research laboratories, 4 computer labs, 3 IT-enabled seminar halls, an auditorium, 14 department staff rooms, a Central library, and Department libraries. Out of the fifty-one magnificence rooms, 7 magnificence rooms are clever magnificence rooms and eight magnificence rooms are ICT-enabled magnificence rooms. COMPUTER LAB:

The college has a facility of four computer centers with 110 computers and most of them have fiber optic 10MBPS internet connectivity and LAN facility. Computer labs are also providing printer and scanner facilities, to meet the requirements of the entire college community. Computer assistant helps the students and staff for availing these services. The computerized central Library is well equipped with five computers having internet connectivity. In addition, all the Departmental staff rooms are provided with computers including an internet facility, printers, and scanners. 

SPORTS:

The record of achievements of the Department of Physical Education forms one of the biggest strengths of the college through the last five decades. The college has been consistently and progressively maintaining and bettering its track record in the field of sports and games at both intercollegiate and inter-university levels by producing a number of achievers at the state and national events. This has stood the college in good stead during the last several decades.

GYMNASIUM:

The gymnasium is intended to promote sports activities and the general health of the students participating in sports and games. It is equipped with bodybuilding pieces of equipment and is attached to the department of physical education.

HOSTEL:

Sree Narayana College, Kannur offers a well-equipped hostel facility for girls, near the college premises, to ensure that the students dwell in a healthy environment that helps them to grow and learn without any obstacles. There are two hostels for girls students with a total capacity of 120 seats. The hostel is administered by a chief matron.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Should have secured 50% or more marks in the qualifying examination. Those who enjoy other scholarships or fee concessions are not eligible. The income per annum of the parents should not exceed Rs. One lakh for the degree. The application will be invited by the Director of Collegiate Education every year. Only those candidates whose mother tongue is not Hindi are eligible. The candidates should study Hindi as one of the subjects. Candidates who have passed the previous qualifying examination in the first attempt and scored not less than 60% marks alone are eligible.
