The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 as a national-level apex advisory body to conduct a comprehensive survey of the available facilities for technical education and promote development in a coordinated and integrated manner across the country. The AICTE Act was formulated to establish the council, intending to facilitate proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout India. Its objectives include promoting qualitative improvements in technical education alongside planned quantitative growth, as well as regulating and maintaining norms and standards within the technical education system and related matters.

Established on September 17, 1994, by the Government of Maharashtra, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, serves the southern part of the Marathwada region, covering four districts: Nanded, Latur, Parbhani, and Hingoli. The university has earned recognition and acclaim at the state, national, and international levels for its academic, research, innovation, and extension activities. Accredited with a 'B++' grade by NAAC, the university has achieved a CGPA of 2.96. With 14 schools on campus, four schools at the sub-campus in Latur, and a sub-campus in Parbhani, along with various academic and research centers, the university offers a diverse range of programs. It oversees over 300 affiliated colleges, offering 146 programs to a student population of 1.63 lakhs. Additionally, it caters to over 4,000 students through distance education, spanning disciplines such as science and technology, humanities, commerce, management, and interdisciplinary studies. The university boasts a multicultural environment, hosting more than 70 foreign students from five countries. Financial assistance from various organizations aids in the development of academic infrastructure, research, and extension activities. The university's faculty members have made significant contributions to academia, with patented inventions, research projects, and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Collaborations with national and international institutions further enhance research capabilities. Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University has implemented a credit transfer policy and reimburses fees for courses offered on NPTEL, SWAYM, and other MOOC platforms, resulting in increased enrollment. It has been recognized as an 'Active Local Chapter' by NPTEL, IIT Madras. A memorandum of understanding with the Virtual Labs project promises to revolutionize ICT-based education. The university is committed to maintaining academic quality through research projects, regular audits, and administrative measures in its affiliated colleges.
