The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 as a national-level apex advisory body with the aim of conducting a comprehensive survey of the available facilities for technical education and promoting development in a coordinated and integrated manner across the country. The AICTE Act was formulated to establish the council, intending to facilitate proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout India. Its objectives include promoting qualitative improvements in technical education alongside planned quantitative growth, as well as regulating and maintaining norms and standards within the technical education system and related matters.

Established in 1998 under the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Act 13, 1998, Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya spans a sprawling campus of approximately 247 acres, aiming to evolve into a hub of excellence in Technical Education, Research, and Innovation. Within its purview, the university oversees 05 University Teaching Departments (UTDs), along with 200 affiliated Engineering Colleges, 98 Pharmacy Colleges, 95 MCA Colleges, and 04 Architecture Colleges. These institutions impart undergraduate education across 17 courses, with an additional 85 Polytechnic institutions offering diploma programs in various disciplines, both conventional and emerging. Nestled amidst picturesque and hilly surroundings, the University now extends its offerings to Ph.D. programs, along with 11 postgraduate courses. Rajiv Gandhi Technical University embodies modernization, reflecting its extensive online presence and a diverse range of courses catering to a wide spectrum of interests. These courses span disciplines such as Management, Forensic Science, Fashion, Engineering, Space Sciences, Social Work, Nanotechnology, Communication, and Pharmacy.
