With the CBSE results season just around the corner, the board has opened the last window for schools to correct student data - a crucial step that could impact mark sheets and final results.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that schools will be able to correct details of candidates between April 9 and April 17, 2025. The move has been taken to ensure accurate results and marks details after many schools submitted incorrect data despite multiple reminders.
The cbse corrections allowed under this window include spelling or swapping parents' names, photo updates, date-of-birth adjustments (as per rules and documents), gender corrections, and updates in the single-child field. Only minor corrections in the mother's or father's name will be allowed. However, "changing category from General to OBC is not allowed."
CBSE also clarified that the data submitted during this window will be considered final. "The Board has noted that it will not accept any correction requests thereafter, and the finalised data will be used for providing marks statements to the candidates."
The accuracy of students' records is of paramount importance ahead of the declaration of CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 results 2025. Even minor discrepancies - such as misspelling parents' names or date of birth - can cause lifelong documentation problems for students.
CBSE's correction window is a direct response to the mistakes that schools continue to make, even after being reminded multiple times. If these mistakes are ignored, the result can be:
Therefore, this correction window is not just administrative – it directly impacts the student's academic profile and future.
CBSE has set strict deadlines for the correction window:
All affiliated schools must adhere to this window. Once this window is closed, no further requests for data correction will be accepted under any circumstances. CBSE emphasized that the corrected data will be considered final and binding for preparation of results and release of CBSE marksheet 2025.
CBSE has provided a clear list of corrections in student data that can be done during this period. These include:
1. Spelling Corrections in Parents’ Names
Minor typographical errors or spelling corrections in the mother's or father's name are permitted. However, any attempt to completely change the names or make major changes will not be permitted.
2. Interchange of Parents’ Names
In some cases, schools have inadvertently changed the “Father’s Name” and “Mother’s Name” fields. Such corrections are allowed.
3. Photo Updates
If the existing photograph is not recent or does not match the school records then candidates can upload a new photograph.
4. Date of Birth Adjustments
Corrections in date of birth are permitted - but only if they are supported by valid school records, such as the School Admission Register or Admission and Withdrawal Register. No changes will be permitted unless supported by authentic documents.
5. Gender Corrections
Changes to the recorded gender of the student are allowed, again, provided they align with school documents.
6. Single-Child Field Update
In cases where a student is mistakenly recorded as not being a single child or vice versa, schools can correct this field.
The CBSE has introduced a processing fee of ₹1,000 per candidate for each data correction made. This fee must be deposited by schools directly to their respective CBSE Regional Offices.
Schools are advised to:
This fee acts as a deterrent against casual or baseless correction requests and encourages schools to double-check records before submission.
