The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday announced that Class 12 students who could not appear for the board exams scheduled on March 15 due to Holi will be entitled to take supplementary exams. This additional exam is usually prescribed for athletes and is held after the standard exams.
"CBSE has been informed that though Holi festival will be celebrated on March 14 in most parts of the country, at some places the festival will either be celebrated on March 15 or till March 15," CBSE exam controller Sanyam Bhardwaj told PTI.
According to Bhardwaj, following the comments, it was decided that though the exams will be held as planned, students who are unable to appear on February 15 can opt to take the exams later.
He said, "It has been decided that such students will be given an opportunity to appear in the examination along with the students for whom special examinations are conducted as per the board's policy for students participating in national or international sports competitions."
CBSE has ever been student-centered in its approach so that no meritorious student loses a chance to gain the opportunity because of situations beyond his or her control. Aware of the commitment of the students who are representing the country or the states at national or international sporting events, the CBSE board issued a notification as:
"Students who were unable to take the Hindi exam because they were participating in national/international-level sports competitions will be permitted to take a special examination later."
This option not only encourages holistic development but also honours the commitment of students who are performing well academically and in extracurricular activities such as sports.
Board examinations for Class 10 and 12 were conducted by CBSE from February 15. Candidates include over 44 lakh students of 8,000 schools in India and abroad.
In order to maintain the authenticity of the examinations, CBSE has issued strict guidelines. Private candidates are asked to wear bright colors, while regular students need to wear school uniforms.
The board also specified several things that cannot be taken to the exam room, including smart phones, Bluetooth technology, ear buds, smart watches, cameras, wallets, bags, goggles, pouches, and unapproved materials. Unless students who are diabetic have permission beforehand, neither food nor drink is allowed.
Class 12 exams will conclude on April 4, and for Class 10, the exams will continue till March 18. In the current year, CBSE has included sufficient time gaps between the core topics to allow the exam process to take place smoothly.
