JEE Mains cutoff 2025 will be announced after the results of the JEE Main second session. This cutoff plays an important role for engineering aspirants hoping to get admission to top IITs, NITs, and IIITs. Once the JEE main results are declared, JoSAA will organise counselling and decide cuttoffs for participating colleges for different Btech branches. JEE Mains cutoff 2025 for different courses will be released with opening and closing ranks for all categories. JoSAA conducts multiple rounds of counselling to allot seats to deserving students according to their ranks. The cutoff will be updated after each round of counselling. The JEE Main 2025 session 1 result is out and candidates must be anxious to know the cutoff to determine which college they are getting. So, we have created an expected cutoff based on the previous year's cutoff analysis. After compiling years of data, we have created an estimation of cutoff marks for all subjects for different categories of students. Check the expected JEE Main cutoff 2025 and start preparing for further steps accordingly.
It is very confusing to determine rank with marks because it changes according to number of applicants and other variables. JEE Main Percentile is a better option to estimate your rank, but first you need to understand the difference between rank, mark and percentile.
It is the total marks obtained by the candidates after calculating the positive score for right answers and negative score for wrong answers. By now, all of you must have checked your answers and calculated your Jee Main Marks according to your responses. For example, if you have attempted 90 questions, out of which 60 are correct and 30 are wrong. So according to rules, your score will be 210, which is your JEE main Marks.
Percentile system is not easy to guess because it shows your performance in comparison to other candidates. It is not directly proportional to your JEE Main marks but greatly depends on the number of applicants. It simply tells how many candidates scored more, less or equal to you. It is also called the NTA score because JEE Main is conducted twice a year in multiple shifts, which raises the question of the difficulty level of this exam. In simple terms, if you got 92 percentile then it means you have done better than 92% of candidates.
The JEE Main Rank is calculated according to the percentile. The higher percentile means better rank. It is based on marks obtained by students including both JEE main sessions in all shifts. If a total of 10 lakh candidates apply for JEE main and you got around 99 percentile, then you are probably under 10000 top candidates.
The JEE Main Cutoff is the minimum number of marks or percentile candidates need to qualify for the JEE Advanced entrance test or admissions to different NITs or IIITs. The cutoff may vary from year to year depending on factors like the number of applicants, exam difficulty level, and the number of seats available. Generally, the final JEE Main cutoff is released after the results of both JEE Main entrance test sessions are declared.
JEE Main marks, rank and percentile, all three of them are different but directly related to each other. For an example, the JEE main marks help decide the percentile or NTA Score which helps decide the rank. The JEE Main percentile is the minimum eligibility criteria that candidates need to fulfil to qualify for JEE Advanced.
Here is the detailed step-by-step process of preparing JEE Main Mark, Percentile and Rank in simple terms:
Step 1: Distributing Candidates Across Shifts
JEE Main exam is conducted twice every year in different shifts. Candidates are divided into different shifts because a large number of students apply for this test every year. Candidates are divided randomly for different shifts, ensuring they are spread evenly to keep the test fair for all.
Step 2: Calculating Results for Each Session
Results for each JEE Main session are released separately which declares the raw marks scored by students. The NTA score or JEE main percentile is the total percentage of marks obtained by any student. It is a direct comparison of how much or less others performed comparatively.
How JEE Percentile Score is Calculated:
It is the simple calculation of percentage based on the number of students applying for the exam and the number scored by any candidate. For example, if a total of 5,000 students appeared in your session and you scored better than 4500 students, then your percentile will be: 100×4500/5000 = 90%.
It simply means that you have performed better than 90% of candidates in your session. Percentile scores from all sessions are merged to prepare the final results.
JEE Main 2025 ranks will be calculated according to the overall marks scored by candidates. It is hard to estimate the exact rank for the exact score because a large number of students apply for this entrance test. Most of the students will get the same marks, so we have created a list with an estimated range of ranks depending on JEE marks.

The JEE main percentile is calculated based on marks obtained by candidates, and the total number of candidates taking the exam. Your percentile directly depends on the number of students score less than you. However, this also falls in the range system because more than 1 candidate can score the same number of marks. So, several students can get the same percentile. Here is the expected JEE Main Cutoff 2025 Marks vs Percentile list:

Students are given ranks or All India Ranks based on their percentile. Students will 100-99.99989 percentile usually get ranked between 1-20 and so on. Same as percentile, multiple students can get the same rank. As the percentile decrease, ranks increase. The higher percentile, means higher the ranking.
