All the top MBA/PGDM colleges have one or other different component that determines the eligibility for MBA\PGDM admission and a different MBA/PGDM admission procedure. To know the MBA/PGDM Admission process you should also be aware of the procedure for MBA/PGDM Entrance Exams. You need to appear in one of these MBA/PGDM entrance exams to get through the MBA/PGDM admission process of the B-school.
Although MBA/PGDM admission process in India for all the top MBA/PGDM colleges is almost similar, the difference is their acceptability of MBA/PGDM entrance exam scores. For example, IIMs accept CAT exam scores, XLRI accepts XAT exam scores, NMIMS accepts NMAT exam scores, Symbiosis accepts SNAP exam scores, IIFT accepts its own IIFT entrance exam score, and so on so forth.
MBA colleges like FMS Delhi, IIFT Delhi, XLRI Jamshedpur, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, NMIMS Mumbai, IMI New Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, IITs follow the 4 steps Admission process to their flagship MBA/PGDM program.
While FMS, MDI, IMI, and IITs accept only CAT scores, XLRI accepts only XAT scores. SPJIMR, IMT, XIMB, TAPMI, and many other top MBA colleges accept both CAT and XAT scores. NMIMS accepts scores of NMAT by GMAC and 15 Symbiosis colleges accept only SNAP test scores. However, despite accepting scores of different MBA entrance exams, the rest two steps of the admission process namely the Shortlisted and final admission round are similar to a large extent and are conducted individually by the respective B-school

MBA Admission: Four-Step Process
The MBA Admission process in India in all the top MBA/PGDM colleges is a four-step process. These 4 steps of the MBA/PGDM admission process are applicable to all the MBA/PGDM colleges including IIMs who offer admission after a rigorous selection process to select the most suitable candidate.
Step-1: Register & Apply for MBA Entrance Exam:- The first to take admitted to MBA/PGDM college must do registration or apply for the entrance exam for MBA/PGDM. The admission process opened by the top MBA/PGDM colleges in august/September first week and closed in November last week. The candidate you are seeking to take admission in the MBA/PGDM program register and apply for any one of the MBA/PGDM entrance exams like- CAT, MAT, CMAT, XAT, IIFT, NMAT, or SNAP within the specific registration window. Most national-level entrance exams like- CAT, and XAT registration windows closed in September and November respectively. Usually the entrance exam registration or application window opens for 45-50 days. If you want to appear in this program you have to do registration for the entrance exam.
Step 2: Appear in MBA Entrance Exam:- those who want to pursue a management program from the top college must appear in any of the CAT, XAT, CMAT and any other relevant entrance exams.
Step-3: Shortlisted Process:- after the declaration of the entrance exam results in January. Most top colleges of management select the suitable candidate for admission on behalf of the entrance exam score. Every individual college gives preference to high scores of entrance exam. some college prefers CAT-qualified students, some gives preference to XAT, and so on. Students will be shortlisted on behalf of entrance exam scores, professional experience and other diameters which will be preferred by the particular business school.
Step-4: Final Admission Process- GD-PI-WAT Round:- all the shortlisted candidates should appear in the Group discussion (GD), Written ability test (WAT), and Personal Interview (PI) round. Every college conducts different –different final selection rounds. Some prefer to only PI round for the final selection of a candidate for the management program. Every college has its own policies for final admission. After the GD, PI, and WAT a final list will be generated of shortlisted candidates and admission will be given to the students.
