The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has launched the National Testing Agency (NTA) as a self-dependent, liberated, and self-sustained premier testing association for executing efficient, transparent, and international measure tests in demand to assess the competency of aspirants for admission to premier higher education institutions.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate Courses in Medicine (NEET) has emerged as a pivotal examination, determining the future of aspiring medical professionals in India. NEET 2024 marks yet another chapter in this journey, where students strive to secure coveted seats in esteemed medical colleges across the nation.

Understanding the intricate selection process and addressing the array of queries that often surround this examination through a comprehensive set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) is instrumental in guiding candidates through this rigorous and competitive process.

NEET 2024 Selection Procedure: Introduction

The authorities will create a merit list (all India rank and state rank) based on the entrance exam scores after candidates pass NEET 2024. According to their positions in the rank list, students will receive invitations to the counselling process. During the counselling process, applicants must select the colleges from a list of those they wish to apply to. Students will be assigned seats based on the choices they make, taking into account both their rank and the number of seats available in the colleges. For the admissions process to be completed, students must report to the designated college. Approximately 53565 seats in the MBBS program are available for admission in India.

Documents required during admission:

1. 10th Grade Mark Sheet & Passing Certificate.

2. 12th Grade Mark Sheet & Passing Certificate.

3. NEET 2022 Admit Card & Rank Card.

4. Category Certificate (if applicable).

5. A counseling letter.

6. passport-size photographs.

Eligibility Criteria

The foundation of NEET 2024 lies in meeting specific eligibility criteria:

1. Age Limit: Candidates must be a minimum of 17 years old and not exceed 25 years for general candidates (with age relaxation for reserved categories).

2. Qualification: Successful completion of the 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.

Registration

Commencing the journey towards NEET 2024 necessitates the completion of the registration process on the official NEET website within the stipulated timeframe.

1. Candidates are required to provide accurate and comprehensive details covering personal, academic, and other pertinent information.

Admit Card

A critical document in the examination process, the admit card, is issued to registered candidates, bearing essential details such as the examination centre, date, and time.

Examination

NEET 2024 entails a pen-and-paper-based test, comprising 180 multiple-choice questions.

1. The subjects covered encompass physics, chemistry, botany, and zoology.

2. Each correct response garners four marks, while incorrect answers result in a negative marking (-1).

Result and Merit List

Post-examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the NEET 2024 results on the official website.

1. A meticulously curated merit list is formulated based on candidates’ scores.

2. Counseling sessions and seat allocation are orchestrated in accordance with the merit list.

Admission to MBBS/BDS course is based only on the merit list prepared by NTA after the exam.

1. A candidate's score had to be at least in the 50 percentile to be included in the merit list. This cutoff has been loosened to the 40 percentile for candidates who fall under the SC, ST, or OBC categories.

2. The central government may reduce the minimum percentile needed to pass the exam in consultation with the MCI and CBSE if, for some reason, fewer candidates receive a 50 percentile score.

3. The applicant must have obtained a cumulative score of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnology during the 10+2 qualifying examination. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, who must receive a 40% aggregate to be eligible for this exam, this total has been lowered.

4. The AIR for a NEET student is impacted if two or more candidates receive the same score.

In such cases, evaluation of NEET Score would be based on the following criteria

1. Students who have achieved better grades in biology

2. Students who achieved higher grades in Chemistry

3. Students who have given fewer incorrect answers across all subject areas

4. Older students will be given preference.
