What is Equating Methodology?

The equating method works to help equalise opportunity for all candidates who participated in the VITEEE 2026. As the exam is conducted in slots and on different days, this method allows for the result to be produced while providing the conditions for all students to rate the same quasi-level of difficulty, notwithstanding sitting the same slot with either easier papers or difficult papers. Therefore, the university balances the scores for all candidates by examining the different forms of variables.

1. Equating is a statistical procedure and process used to adjust the scores on test forms (that are roughly similar), which is done to each test form such that the scores between test forms can be used interchangeably.
2. Thus, equating is for adjusting scores of candidates who have taken various forms of a test, in order to allow reasonable and fair comparison for the merit list and ranking of these candidates.
3. VIT would use the statistical procedure of Equipercentile Equating to derive the percentile ranks for candidates, so that scores on different forms of tests that have the same percentile rank are treated as equivalent.
4. Therefore, Percentile Rank is an idiosyncratic and invariant position of the test taker in that group.
5. A percentile Rank could be the 90 Percentile Rank or 90% of test takers have performed below this score level and 10% above this score level.
6. As it is computer-based test, every precaution will be made in the valuation process. Therefore, there will be no chance of revaluation of the answers.
