The Union Education Minister chaired the third advisory committee meeting on Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a meeting of the advisory committee on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning, focusing on the increasing role of AI in improving learning outcomes in school and higher education.
Addressing the committee, Pradhan said that artificial intelligence has the potential to address some of the biggest challenges in education, particularly in making quality education more inclusive, accessible, and equitable. He emphasized the government's commitment to student-centric and personalized learning, improving learning outcomes, and catering to the diverse needs of learners and educators.
A detailed presentation on the changes made in school education explained how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being systematically integrated into the education system in accordance with the National Education Policy. Key curriculum reforms include the introduction of age-appropriate computational thinking and AI literacy from the early stages, a greater emphasis on project-based learning, and the inclusion of AI as a skill subject at the secondary level.
The presentation also showcased national digital initiatives utilizing AI, such as DIKSHA 2.0, e-Jaadui Pitara, Guru-Mitra TARA app, My Career Advisor, and Vidya Samiksha Kendra. These platforms are being used for personalized learning, teacher support, career guidance, multilingual access, assessments, and real-time monitoring of students.
Another presentation focused on the use of AI in higher education, emphasizing its role in strengthening the teaching-learning process, research, innovation, and graduate employability. The discussion included integrating AI-enabled curriculum updates, interdisciplinary and skill-based courses in centrally funded institutions, and expanding digital and physical infrastructure to support advanced research and learning.
Officials stated that these initiatives aim to produce future-ready graduates, foster an innovation ecosystem within higher education institutions, and ensure that India's higher education system remains inclusive and globally competitive.
