CUET UG 2025 Exam Pattern Revised: What’s New This Year?

On December 9, 2024, UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar met with students who appeared for CUET UG 2024. In this meeting, he discussed various issues that occurred in the previous exam and proposed changes for 2025. Based on the feedback, the concerned authority made some changes to the CUET UG exam pattern 2025. The new pattern is designed to make the exam more efficient and credible for students who wish to pursue undergraduate programs at top CUET-participating central, state, and private universities for the academic year 2025-2026.

CUET Exam Pattern 2025: Revised

The chairman of UGC has made major changes to the CUET UG 2025 exam pattern. Refer to the below points to learn about these changes:

1. CUET 2025 will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.
2. Earlier, there were 63 subjects, UGC has reduced it to 37 subjects now. Universities will provide admission for the deleted subjects according to the General Aptitude Test (GAT) Score.
3. So far, there have been 33 languages (13 regional and 20 foreign languages). UGC has removed all foreign languages now, so the total now stands at 13 languages.
4. The domain subjects are also brought down from 29 to 23 domain subjects. The three removed subjects announced till now include Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, and Legal Studies. The remaining three domain subjects shall be announced by UGC soon.
5. Students can now select up to five subjects instead of six subjects. Students are also given the interdisciplinary flexibility of selecting any subject, irrespective of what they study in Class 12th.
6. The duration of the previous examination was 45 minutes for domain subjects except for certain main domain subjects which will take 60 minutes; the general tests will take 60 minutes. This is going to be standardized to an hour for all subjects.
7. There will be no optional questions given in the exam. Students will have to attempt all the questions within 60 minutes.

CUET UG 2025 Deleted Subjects

UGC has announced the elimination of 20 foreign languages and six domain subjects. The CUET UG subjects have been reduced from 63 to 37. Check out the deleted subjects below:

1. Foreign Languages (French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, Chinese)

About the CUET UG Exam 2024

Common University Entrance Test, or CUET, is a national-level entrance exam for undergraduate courses across 283 participating universities/colleges. The NTA is expected to conduct the CUET UG 2025 exam in May/June 2025. However, the official CUET calendar has not been released, which is causing confusion among students.

The NTA announced the CUET exam date schedule last year in November. This year, a delay has left the students in confusion. Students feel that with the announcement of the Class 12th Board exams, they have only begun to feel the pressure concerning the CUET date sheet, as they have not found enough time to plan well for their preparation. It is, therefore, difficult for them to make time for both Board and CUET exam preparations.
