Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025 for the academic year 2025-26. Candidates need to visit the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Candidates need to register online on the official GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal from August 25 to September 25, 2025. GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for GATE 2026, candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria set by the university:

  1. Currently enrolled in the third year of an undergraduate degree programme or higher.
  2. Or a qualifying degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts or humanities from a recognised institution.
  3. An equivalent certificate of BE/BTech/BArch/BPlanning officially recognised by the Ministry of Education, AICTE, UGC or UPSC.
  4. An international degree equivalent to an Indian standard undergraduate degree is also valid.

GATE 2026 Registration Fees

The exam fee is set by the university according to the exam paper, if a student wants to choose two papers, he/she has to pay double the fee. To register for the exam, candidates can check the category-wise registration fee set by the authorities:

  1. Candidates opting for two exam papers will have to primarily choose one exam paper and the other option from the approved combinations. Combinations other than the combinations listed in the initial (regular and extended) period of registration are not permitted.
  2. Candidates may have a different (but in the same city) exam centre for the second exam paper.
  3. The Board may make changes in some combinations at a later stage. In such cases, the fee paid for the second exam paper will be duly refunded to the candidates.

Important Documents Required for GATE 2026 Application

To avoid application delays or cancellation, applicants must ensure that the uploaded documents are legible. Candidates must keep the following information readily available while filling the GATE 2026 online application form:

  1. Personal details
  2. Name: The name of the candidate in the application form must be the same as the name mentioned in the valid photo identity card, which the candidate must produce in original while appearing at the GATE 2026 examination centre. Prefixes/titles such as Mr./Shri/Dr./Smt./Mrs./Professor/Captain/Major/Lt./Colonel etc. should not be used before the name. The GATE 2026 scorecard will be issued as per the name entered in the application form.
  3. Date of Birth: Candidates are advised to ensure that the date of birth mentioned in the application form exactly matches with the date of birth mentioned in the photo identity card.
  4. Personal mobile number
  5. Parent or Guardian name and mobile number
  6. Contact address with PIN code
  7. Details of eligible degree
  8. Institute/College name and address with PIN code
  9. Choice of GATE exam question papers
  10. Choice of three cities for GATE exam from the same region
  11. Net-banking/Debit card/Credit card/UPI/Wallet details for fee payment

Eligible candidates applying for GATE 2026 can check the following list of documents required for online application:

  1. Candidate’s photograph as per guidelines
  2. Candidate’s signature as per guidelines
  3. Scanned copy of valid photo identity card (ID) (This ID has to be produced in original while taking GATE 2026 exam at the centre)
  4. Scanned copy of Category (SC/ST) certificate, if applicable, in PDF format
  5. Scanned copy of UDID (Preferred)/PwD certificate, if applicable, in PDF format
  6. Scanned copy of Dyslexic certificate, if applicable, in PDF format
  7. Relevant attachments, if applicable, in PDF format

How to Register for GATE 2026?

The step-by-step process to apply for GATE 2026 is as follows -

  1. Visit the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
  2. On the homepage, in the candidate registration window, create a new account using your information.
  3. Go back to the login window and login using the credentials.
  4. Fill in the personal and academic details.
  5. Choose your exam city, paper combination and other details.
  6. Upload scanned documents in the prescribed format.
  7. Submit the application fee online.
  8. Check your information and press 'Submit'.
  9. Download the form and keep it for future reference.
