NEW DELHI: The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) will revise the marks for its 12th-grade English exam with the correct answer keys after a "human error" in the tabulation of marks, which was later cancelled, officials said Wednesday. The March 8 exam was postponed to March 29 after teachers at Chowari District Higher Secondary School in Chamba district opened the 12th grade exam instead of the 10th grade exam a day before the March 7 exam.
The results of the 12th-grade board exam were announced on Saturday, following which HPBOSE received numerous complaints from students who scored poorly in English. The Himachal Pradesh Government Teachers' Union (HPGTU) and private school associations informed authorities about the matter, prompting Education Minister Rohit Thakur to request the board to investigate the matter and take necessary action.
The board ordered an investigation, which concluded that incorrect answer sheets for the cancelled exam were issued due to "human error" that caused the discrepancies, explained HPBOSE secretary Vishal Sharma. Acknowledging the error, the board stated that the answer sheets of students with lower scores will be re-reviewed, and that their scores will only be increased, not reduced, in the revised results to be announced soon.
