HP Board's flexible improvement policy will be implemented for students in grades 10 and 12, along with major changes to the grade 10 and 12 board exams, starting with the 2026 academic session. While both decisions are in the proposal stage, the aim is to reduce students' academic stress.
Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) Grade 10 and 12 Examinations 2026: The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education will implement a flexible improvement policy for HPBOSE students in Grades 10 and 12 from March 2026, in line with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. As part of this system, the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, HPBOSE 2026 Examinations for Grades 10 and 12 will be conducted twice a year (first in March and then in July), offering students multiple opportunities to improve their performance. The HPBOSE system of examinations is conducted twice a year to reduce academic stress and provide students with the flexibility to improve their grades.
Students who fail one or more subjects in the March 2026 HPBOSE board exam will have the opportunity to retake the exam in July, while those who pass will also be able to improve their grades. This flexible option aims to provide students with the opportunity to access university, obtain scholarships, and achieve better results in competitive exams, all without affecting the regular academic calendar or requiring a repeat year.
According to press reports, the proposal to hold HPBOSE board exams twice a year starting in 2026 is pending government approval. It also seeks to eliminate the terms "fail" and "compartment," as these labels often place a psychological burden on students. This reform seeks to promote a more supportive and stress-free assessment environment for students in grades 10 and 12.
