IIM Calcutta conducted the CAT 2024 exam yesterday. This year's CAT exam has raised fears of higher cutoffs among MBA aspirants. While there are numerous alternatives, NMAT might be the best bet for those who will not make it to the CAT cutoff.
Yesterday, IIM Calcutta conducted the CAT 2024 test in three sessions. All of the aspirants were relieved to find that the test was comparably soft this time as compared to previous years. However, this has raised the expectations of many for a substantial hike in the CAT cutoff, which scares many test-takers as they anticipate tough competition for limited MBA seats at IIMs.
Given the expected increase in CAT 2024 cutoffs, several aspirants have begun to seek alternative doors into MBA courses. The NMAT entrance exam is one of the most notable alternatives. NMAT is accepted by several tier-1 business schools, particularly NMIMS, SPJIMR, and K J Somaiya.
However, the registration window for NMAT 2024 had already closed on October 13. All candidates who did not register till that date do not stand a chance to appear in this session. However, that is not a problem. For several years, the conducting body of NMAT, GMAC, has opened a fresh window of registration in January for all those candidates who have not taken the three attempts of NMAT as yet or who have missed the first window of registration.
There are also chances for them through the NMAT 2024 test if they are looking at a window that may open in January. This will give test-takers a second opportunity to apply for this MBA program if they are not able to make it in time for the cutoff in CAT. They will also not be under pressure to get a high cutoff in CAT.
While the easier CAT 2024 exam has led to apprehensions of a high cutoff, the candidates have an alternative route in the form of NMAT. Keeping tabs on a possible January registration window for NMAT 2024 may prove to be crucial for those seeking admission to top business schools.
