JMI Vice-Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar officially launched the new course. The new course will be run in the newly created department named the Department of Design and Innovation. In the beginning, the department will provide MDes for its students and later, plans are in place to offer graduate and research degrees to be offered in the near future.
JMI Masters in Design Course
The department will provide MDes for its students. The main areas of study include Design for Product Design, Interaction Design, and Communication Design. The idea behind the formation of an entirely new department has its roots in the idea of providing an experiential learning experience to students and making them ready for the future of work in India. The department, as well as the new course, were launched with two main goals --
Promoting culture and an application of critical design thinking among workers of the future.
Future entrepreneurs and leaders with an excellent foundation in design innovation and the ability to conduct research and translate ideas into concrete actions.
Prof Farhat Basir Khan To Lead the Department
Prof. Farhat Basir Khan will lead the establishment of the department. He has over thirty years of experience as a leader in both professional and academic settings. In his remarks, professor Khan stated that "The department has been established to creatively address the growing demand for design professionals and innovators in the country; the Design professionals who can build and create a business with purpose and address this wide gap, the design professionals who can think on their feet and come up with out-of-the-box creative solutions well suited to a country of 1.4 billion people with vast inequalities".
