The institute secured a position within the 1001-1200th band in the 2023 edition of THE World University Rankings. In the Impact Rankings of 2021, it was placed in the 801-1000th band. Moreover, in the Young University Rankings of 2023 by THE, the institute achieved a position within the 301-350th band.
IIT Bhubaneswar, as one of the second-generation IITs, has demonstrated notable achievements in various rankings over the last five years. In the engineering category of the Education Ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework, it consistently secured a position within the top 50. Additionally, in the overall category of NIRF 2023, IIT Bhubaneswar was placed 91st.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, the institute made significant strides as well. In THE World University Rankings 2023, it was positioned in the 1001-1200th band, while in the Impact Rankings 2021, it secured a place within the 801-1000th band. Furthermore, in THE's Young University Rankings 2023, IIT Bhubaneswar was positioned in the 301-350th band.
However, the institute was not included in THE rankings for the year 2024. In the QS World University Rankings 2024, it secured a place within the 731-740 band.
- Regarding the research ranking, in 2022, the institute achieved the 39th position, but in 2023, it did not manage to secure a position in the rankings.
The institute is acknowledged as an institution of national significance by the Indian government. It was the pioneer among the IITs to establish a specialized maritime campus in 2011. This campus is dedicated to conducting research programs in various domains, including fisheries development, biodiversity, disaster response, and addressing the challenges posed by rising sea levels.
