Kerala's revised academic calendar for 2025 includes extended school hours and Saturday working days for secondary school students. The changes will apply to 204 working days, with six Saturday working days for grades 8 to 10.
Kerala School Education News: The Kerala Department of General Education released the revised academic calendar for the 2025-26 academic year. This year, the department implemented extended school hours and Saturday work for secondary school students as per the revised Kerala academic calendar 2025. The decision seeks to ensure a minimum of 1,100 teaching hours per year, which has received both support and opposition from stakeholders.
Kerala secondary school students in grades 8 to 10 will reportedly now have to spend 15 additional minutes in the morning and 15 additional minutes in the afternoon each weekday, according to revised academic guidelines. However, Fridays will no longer be a workday. Kerala had planned a 220-day workday schedule last year; however, media reports highlight that the changes will apply to 204 workdays, with six additional Saturdays as school days for secondary school students in grades 8 to 10.
Kerala's education minister, V. Sivankutty, shared on the social media platform 'X': "Kerala's revised curriculum upholds constitutional values, with a focus on teaching students about the constitutional role of the governor in the face of rising abuse. This content will be added to school textbooks this year."
"When you analyze all the figures, the real question arises as to whether there is a conspiracy from some quarter to destroy Kerala's General Education Department, which is considered a national model and second in the nation," Sivankutty added.
Kerala new academic calendar for 2025 also includes arts and sports festivals, activities for students with disabilities, scholarships, and anti-drug campaigns.
