NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) uses a score-based system to rank institutions in different categories (engineering, overall, etc). Each institution is evaluated on 5 broad criteria, with a certain weightage. Each criterion under each criterion is assigned a raw score (e.g., number of PhDs awarded, placement percentage). The raw scores are normalized (scaled between 0-100) to account for variation across institutions. The weighted scores of all criteria are summed to produce the final NIRF score (out of 100). Institutions are then ranked in descending order of their scores.
According to the NIRF 2025 ranking report, out of the 14,064 students in KIIT's 4-year UG course, about 103 are from the state itself, while 12,910 are from outside the state. The institute has admitted 2,096 students from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC), of which 628 are getting full tuition fee reimbursement from institutional funds. Similar demographic information is seen in other programs as well. The placement record of the institute shows consistent improvement with the increasing number of students. For the 3-year UG course, 1,430 out of 1,495 graduates got placements at an average salary of INR 6.3 lakh. Talking about the 4-year UG programs with 3,611 graduates, 3,513 got placements while 98 went for higher studies. The average salary was INR 9.7 lakh.
Currently, KIIT has a total of 13,662 undergraduate students, of which 12,467 are from outside Odisha and 97 are international students. The student body also includes 1,098 students from economically weaker backgrounds and 2,293 from socially disadvantaged sections (SC/ST/OBC). To support them, many students are provided with fee reimbursement—338 students receive government aid, 753 students are funded by the institute, while 840 students receive aid from other sources.
At the postgraduate level, the institute has 224 students enrolled, most of whom are from within the state, along with 42 students from outside Odisha and 8 international students. The distribution of economically and socially challenged students is similar to that at the undergraduate level, although the number of scholarships and fee waivers is comparatively less.
