Students and teachers are advised to keep themselves updated with the latest information received from the University and maintain coordination with their institutions regarding exam preparations.
In view of the public holiday declared by the Government on the occasion of Narali Purnima, the University of Mumbai has postponed all examinations scheduled to be held on August 8, 2025. Due to the closure on account of festivals, the University has rescheduled the examinations of compulsory subjects in several faculties. The revised dates will be announced shortly.
This postponement will affect examinations in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education and Pharmacy as well as the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE).
A notification has been issued urging the Principals of the affiliated colleges and the Director of the CDOE to inform the affected students as soon as possible.
The Maharashtra government recently announced Narali Purnima (August 8) and Jyeshtha Gauri Visarjan (September 2) in place of two previous holidays - Dahi Handi (Gopalakala) and Anant Chaturdashi - for Mumbai city and suburbs, following which immediate updates were received from all institutions.
Further, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has confirmed a civic holiday for schools and non-essential municipal offices on August 8, in line with the widespread civic observance.
Students—especially working professionals and distance learners enrolled through the CDOE—expressed disappointment at the last-minute announcement. Many students sought more foresight in aligning the academic calendar with the festival schedule, citing disruption in planning and preparation.
Students and teachers are advised to keep getting the latest information from the university and coordinate with their institutions regarding examination preparations.
