The Madras High Court has withdrawn the stay order previously imposed on the declaration of NEET 2025 results, following petitions filed by candidates complaining of difficulties in taking the exam due to a power outage at the examination center. The Court, presided over by Justice C. Kumarappan, heard the case on Friday, June 6, 2025. During the hearing, the petition for a retake of NEET 2025 was also dismissed.
The report of the National Testing Agency was submitted on June 2, 2025, and based on this report, a judgment was delivered. Justice Kumarappan stated that, after on-the-spot verification, the National Testing Agency (NTA) observed that the power outage did not affect the candidates' performance. This conclusion must be upheld by the court, unless there was mala fide evidence. The Hindu quoted Justice Kumarappan as saying: "In the present case, I find no mala fide conduct on the part of the respondent. Moreover, across India, approximately 220,000 students appeared for the NEET-UG 2025 exam. From this perspective, if a retest is ordered, it would seriously affect the equality of opportunity for two million candidates."
Furthermore, Solicitor General AR.L. Sundaresan, in the hearing on June 6, 2025, stated that no substantial effect on candidates' performance was observed due to the fact that the NEET 2025 exam was held in broad daylight on May 4, 2025, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. This observation was based on the scientific assessment conducted by the NTA.
Furthermore, the report also mentioned that the number of questions answered by applicants in the NEET 2025 exam is higher than the district average.
Previously, the Madras High Court had issued a stay order on the NEET 2025 result, which will be announced by June 14, 2025. Thirteen candidates appeared before the Madras High Court, affected at the PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF examination center, Avadi, due to a power outage caused by a thunderstorm. Vacation Court Judge V. Lakshminarayanan issued the interim order on Friday after considering a joint petition for injunction filed by the students.
The NTA released the provisional answer key for NEET 2025 and the answer sheet for OMR candidates on June 3, 2025. The period for objections, which began on that date, ended on June 5, 2025. The final answer key will be announced along with the NEET 2025 results no later than June 14, 2025.
