Indian Medical Association-Junior Doctors' Network (IMA-JDN) has made an immediate appeal to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, raising serious concern regarding the distribution of NEET-PG exam centres. This was done in response to complaints reported by candidates from across the nation who were assigned exam centres in far-off states for the medical entrance exam, putting them through serious anxiety and distress.
As the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) is scheduled for August 3, the IMA-JDN has appealed to the Union Health Ministry to instruct the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to re-open the exam centre shift portal so that the aggrieved candidates would be able to gain from being able to choose centres in their home state or nearby location.
The IMA-JDN highlighted in its petition that although some students have been allotted exam centres in nearby cities, a majority of candidates have been allotted exam centres in far-off states, involving lengthy, costly, and tiring travels to unfamiliar destinations.
This disparity not only affects equity but can also have a negative impact on the mental well-being and performance of students during this critical yearly examination," it said. "IMA-JDN is committed to furthering equity and accessibility in every aspect of medical education and examination systems," the association of doctors added.
On July 21, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) issued the NEET PG 2025 test intimation slips. The NEET PG 2025 admission cards will be released on July 31.
At the same time, India's Supreme Court has fixed August 3 to hear a batch of petitions related to the transparency of the NEET PG examination process. The issue was originally brought to the notice of a bench comprising Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria. The case pertains to issues related to the release of answer keys and the evaluation process adopted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
