RRBs follow percentile-based normalization to calculate marks. RRB NTPC normalization is done to adjust the difficulty level of question papers across different sessions. It is a standard procedure followed to calculate marks in an exam conducted in multiple shifts. Normalization uses percentile scores that measure the performance of each candidate in comparison to other exams. The raw marks of each shift are converted into a percentile scale ranging from 100 (highest marks) to 0 (lowest marks), ensuring consistency across shifts. The formula for normalization is given below.
Percentile Score=(Number of candidates with raw score ≤ Candidate’s scoreTotal number of candidates in the shift)×100\text{Percentile Score} = \left( \frac{\text{Number of candidates with raw score ≤ Candidate's score}}{\text{Total number of candidates in the shift}} \right) \times 100Percentile Score=(Total number of candidates in the shift Number of candidates with raw score ≤ Candidate’s score)×100
