The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is an integrated scheme for school education covering all areas from preschool to Grade 12. Launched in 2018, the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) combines three core education programs: the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), and Teacher Education (TE). Its aim is to create a single, unified education system. The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is now aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This means that the SSA works to improve access to schools, ensure fairness, enhance quality, and integrate digital technology into education. Furthermore, the scheme supports the Right to Education Act of 2009.
The scheme aims to ensure that all children receive a high-quality education, including an equitable and inclusive classroom environment that takes into account their diverse backgrounds, language skills, and learning abilities, and helps them actively participate in the learning process. The scheme has been extended for five years, from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
The scheme aims to provide equitable, inclusive, and high-quality education to all children, regardless of their background, language needs, or learning abilities, and promote active participation. Its main objectives are: implementing the NEP 2020 and the RTE Act 2009; focusing on ECCE and basic literacy/numeracy; utilizing a holistic, integrated, inclusive, and experiential curriculum; improving student outcomes; addressing gaps in social and gender equity; strengthening teacher training (SCERTs/DIETs); ensuring safe learning environments; and promoting vocational education.
