Schools and colleges will remain closed today, October 27, in several states, including Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, due to Chhath Puja. State governments have issued separate orders declaring a public holiday.
In Delhi, all schools (government and private) and colleges will remain closed on Monday. This order was approved by the Lieutenant Governor following a proposal from the Delhi Chief Minister to observe Chhath Puja. In Delhi, approximately 1,300 Chhath Ghats have been prepared across the city for devotees offering prayers to the setting sun in the evening.
In Bihar, the state education department has declared a holiday for both schools and higher education institutions until October 29. This extended holiday includes Diwali and Chhath Puja, and classes will resume on October 30.
Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, district authorities have declared a one-day holiday on October 27 in cities like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Lucknow. Some areas may also observe a holiday on October 28 based on local customs.
Local administrations in parts of Jharkhand and West Bengal have also taken similar decisions. Schools and colleges in Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Asansol will remain closed on Monday and reopen on Tuesday.
